University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview nationally ranked in nine specialties by U.S. News & World Report
MINNEAPOLIS (July 19, 2011) – University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview is in some rather elite company, according to U.S. News & World Report.
The news magazine’s annual “Best Hospitals” survey ranked the medical center among the nation’s best in nine medical specialties, including:
- Cancer (#23)
- Diabetes & Endocrinology (#36)
- Ear, Nose & Throat (#49)
- Gastroenterology (#25)
- Nephrology (#19)
- Neurology & Neurosurgery (#36)
- Orthopedics (#34)
- Pulmonology (#18)
- Urology (#37)
U.S. News also ranked the medical center #1 in the Twin Cities metro area.

The “Best Hospitals” issue hits newsstands August 30th, but all the rankings are available right now at U.S. News & World Report.
The rankings are based on certain measures including reputation, outcomes and other care-related factors like advanced technology and affiliation with a medical school.
In June, U.S. News ranked University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital among the nation’s top children’s hospitals in eight specialties including cancer and neonatology. The hospital just opened a new facility on its Minneapolis west bank campus in April.
