Do You Qualify For Weight-Loss Surgery?
We follow the National Institute of Health guidelines for obesity surgery. To qualify, you must have a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or greater or a BMI of 35 in addition to any of the diseases associated with obesity. Those diseases include:
- Type 2 diabetes
- Obstructive sleep apnea
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - heartburn symptoms
- High cholesterol
- Osteoarthritis or degenerative joint disease
Calculate your BMI and find out if you are at risk:
- Underweight = <18.5
- Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
- Overweight = 25-29.9
- Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater
- Laparoscopic adjustable gastric band
- Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
- Sleeve gastrectomy
- Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch
