When you need us, our care teams at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, are ready to help you. They expertly diagnose and treat conditions of the esophagus. You can count on receiving their coordinated, comprehensive care tailored to meet your unique needs. We treat the following esophageal conditions:

  • Achalasia (a disorder of the esophagus)
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD; a return of the
stomach's contents back up into the esophagus)
  • Barrett's esophagus (a complication of
         gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD)
  • Esophageal cancer (cancer of the esophagus)
  • Esophageal motility disorders (difficulty in swallowing,
regurgitation of food and a spasm-type pain that can be
caused by an allergic reaction to certain foods)
  • Esophageal perforations (holes in the esophagus)
  • Esophageal dysplasia (a precancerous condition of the esophagus that may include inflammation or swelling
        of the esophageal lining)
  • Hiatal hernia (repair of new and complex revisions; hiatal hernia is a condition where part of the stomach sticks
upward in the chest through an opening in the diaphragm)

As leading experts in the field of minimally invasive surgery, we utilize robotic-assisted techniques using state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to ensure the best possible outcomes. Our surgical treatment options include:
