Referring patients to University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview

The staff of University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, along with our partners, University of Minnesota Physicians and community physicians, is committed to providing exceptional stoke care. We have made it easy for you to refer patients with one single point of access for emergency code activation for trauma, stroke and STEMI/myocardial infarction referrals.

  • 24-Hour Physician Referral and Emergency Line: 612-672-7575

For adult or pediatric injured/trauma referrals, the caller should state "injured" or "trauma" in order to be routed directly to Emergency Services. As part of the follow-up process, the referring provider will receive a call and a letter from Trauma Services or Emergency Services.

The process for stroke and STEMI/myocardial infarction is as follows:

  • Acute stroke - State "acute stroke" when you call the access line. For follow-up the referring provider will receive a call from a member of the stroke team and a letter from the attending or fellow handling the case.
  • STEMI/myocardial infarction - State "acute heart attack" or "immediate access to cardiac cath lab" when you call the access line. For follow-up the referring provider will receive a call from the IV cardiologist after the procedure and an email from the Cath Lab to the nurse manager of the referring Emergency Department.

We value our relationship with you, your patients and your office staff.
