Maternal-Fetal Medicine

Real_Patient_Staff_UMMC_LrgVert_maternal_fetal_102 Specialists at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview’s three Maternal-Fetal Medicine Centers provide care for pregnant women who are — or who have high risks of — experiencing a medically complicated pregnancy. We provide care at our three metro-area locations — Burnsville, Edina and Minneapolis.

Patients must be referred to Maternal-Fetal Medicine Centers by their primary care physician. Referral form for physicians.

On our Minneapolis campus is University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital. The Hospital has a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit which provides the highest level of neonatal intensive care available. Maternal-fetal medicine patients who receive care at our Edina and Burnsville locations also have access to these services.

Our Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists are board certified in maternal-fetal medicine. In addition, our maternal-fetal medicine team has the only physician in Minnesota who is dually trained in maternal-fetal medicine and clinical genetics; there are fewer than 100 such physicians nationwide. Our Maternal- Fetal Medicine Centers are part of the University of Minnesota National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health, which serves as a national model to provide innovative, comprehensive and interdisciplinary care for women.

We often collaborate with the following specialists on patients’ care:

• Echocardiographers
Genetic counselors
• Neonatologists
• Pediatric subspecialists, including cardiologists, urologists and neurosurgeons
• Registered nurses
• Ultrasonographers
