Betsy's story
Winning the battle against chronic myelogenous leukemia
Betsy, wife and mother of two young girls, went to the doctor in 2005 because of a painful rash that wouldn't go away. She never expected to hear the word "cancer". Her diagnosis was chronic myelogenous leukemia in blast crisis -- a serious form of advanced leukemia. Her doctor at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview told her that the only treatment that held promise was a blood or marrow transplant. Although she didn't have a sibling match, a young man in Germany was a match and agreed to provide peripheral stem cells for Betsy's transplant. Today, Betsy's health is restored and she says she is grateful for every day.
