About our BMT program

Welcome to one of the world's premier Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) programs. People travel from across the country and around the world for BMT treatment at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, and University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital. Together, we partner with patients and families to make the BMT experience the very best it can be.

For more than 40 years we have provided compassionate, expert, innovative care to blood and marrow transplant (BMT) patients. Our BMT Program is the oldest and one of the largest and most respected BMT research programs in the world. We have the largest umbilical cord blood transplant program in the world, treating more adults with cord blood therapy than any other center.

The Blood and Marrow Transplant Program has been at the forefront of BMT advances since performing the world's first successful BMT in 1968. University of Minnesota Physicians have performed well over 5,000 BMTs since that time. Under the Medical Directorship of Daniel Weisdorf, M.D., we provide evidence-based care driven by the ongoing research of our BMT faculty at University of Minnesota. We continually strive to improve the safety and effectiveness of transplant therapy, to provide our patients with the best possible outcomes.
