University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, among Top Transplant Hospitals in the U.S.
University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, has been named to HealthGrades second annual list of top transplant hospitals. Using data representing one- and three-year survival rates, HealthGrades reviewed transplant data for 230 adult acute care hospitals in the United States.
Among the 19 hospitals named to the top transplant list, University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, was recognized for excellence across two programs: lung and liver transplants. In addition, University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, was the only upper Midwest transplant center recognized by HealthGrades in 2011.
University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, surgeons have performed more than 700 lung transplants to date. The three-year survival rate for these transplants is more than 80 percent as compared with 67 percent nationally.
To help combat a shortage of liver donors, University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, created and continues to build upon a Living Donor Program. The program allows individuals — friends, relatives or co-workers — to donate portions of their liver to help extend a life of a child or adult.
