Washington Avenue Closure
Beginning Monday, May 16, Washington Avenue, between Pleasant and Oak streets, on the East Bank of the University of Minnesota campus, will close for road construction to make way for the future Washington Avenue Light Rail Transit Mall. This closure may affect your journey to University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview and its affiliated clinics. Please view our updated hospital campus map and driving directions. During construction, please allow extra time when traveling on the East Bank. Be alert, slow down and watch for out for workers, vehicles and equipment in the construction areas.
The Central Corridor light rail line will run along Washington and University avenues to connect downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul beginning in 2014. To learn more about the light rail project, visit the Metropolitan Council Central Corridor Web site.
